![]() | Stop 'N Stitch opened its doors for business on August 1, 1995, under the direction of Sandra (Sandy) Mack. Sandy actually purchased the shop from the original owner on June 1, 1996. Under her direction, the shop has continued to flourish by adding to its product inventory, developing different types of classes for students, and increasing her general knowledge of needlework. |
Sandy started her love of needlework when she created her first apron as a 4-H project when she was seven years old. Under her mother's guidance. Sandy's love of stitching continued to grow and flourish, first as sewing and stamped embroidery, and then into smocking, knitting, crocheting, crewel embroidery, and needlepoint. She found her love when, working at Jo-Ann Fabrics, she came across a counted cross stitch pattern for two dolls sitting back to back with a verse about friends. She sat down with 14 count Aida, embroidery floss, and a sewing needle to create her first counted cross stitch "masterpiece". It was worked over a square of four so the stitches were very large; some of them were crossed in the wrong direction; she didn't know about 'laying' the threads, so the threads are twisted, but it is still decorating her daughter's bed in her room. Since owning the shop, Sandy has increased her knowledge of stitching to include Hardanger embroidery, needle tatting, reversible cross stitching, and specialty stitching. Sandy is married to a wonderful man named Alan who fully supports her adventure into Stop 'N Stitch. They have two terrific children. Jennifer is married to her wonderful husband, Robert (Bob). They have a darling little boy named Robert (Robby), who is the joy of the family right now. Jennifer helps out at Stop 'N Stitch, sometimes as a silent partner and sometimes doing paperwork for her mother. She even spends time in the shop assisting customers on sale days and sometimes just for a special, no reason at all, visit. Sandy and Alan's son, Christopher, is still single. He and Bob help negotiate the intricacies of the computer system in order to keep the records for the shop in order. Sandy constantly calls on one of the "boys" for assistance on the computer. Bob writes programs for her and both help fix all the problems when things go wrong. "I am very lucky to have such wonderful children. Of course, I wouldn't be where I without the support of my loving husband, Alan." Sandy graduated from the State University of New York at Oneonta with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics Education. She taught high school for three-years, and then left to stay home and raise her children. She worked part-time while raising her children at various jobs throughout the years, including seven years with Jo-Ann Fabrics where she held the position of Assistant Manager and was even Temporary Manager for a while. "I wanted to be home with my children, so the Manager position was out of the question." Sandy hopes that you enjoy your visit to the Stop 'N Stitch website and will visit often. In addition, she is only as far away as your computer for personalized assistance on any of your stitching questions. She hopes to hear from you soon. | |
